What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy, like art itself, can take on many forms. It can be practical and empowering, such as learning a new skill or medium. It can be a way to illustrate and externalize difficult emotional terrain. It can be a way to add a playful element to a weighty process. It can also be another form of communication between therapist and client, and in my work I have found that it can be particularly useful when words are not enough.
